WOW! Where has NIX been hiding this frame all this time. It plays the slide show seamlessly.

I own three older NIX frames...a 10",12" and 15" and they all work perfectly; however, I purchased a second 12" NIX frame as a gift for a friend. The model I purchased was the NIX X12C and it just did not work properly. It would not play any flash drive that I purchased. Sometimes nothing played with one flash drive, while another flash drive kept repeating photos or froze photos for up to a minute, even though I set it for 3 seconds. I was also told that I had to resize the photos for them to work properly. I did not do that because I never had to do it with the older frames, and several people wrote reviews on Amazon that they tried doing that, but it did not help at all. I returned the frame and wrote a one star review here on Amazon for that frame. You can find that review under my name for the NIX X12C frame..

NIX Support viewed that one star review and contacted me. As a result, NIX took it upon themselves to send me this new NIX frame free of charge. The frame I was sent is this new NIX 12D frame that is now offered here on Amazon. Note the new frame has a "D" nomenclature whereas the older frame had a "C". I have nothing but praise for the NIX Support team.

Now, about this new frame. It works perfectly with the currently available flash drives, and I tried three different drives. The remote and the software are newly designed and more user friendly. Needless to say, none of that silly photo resizing is necessary, as it was not necessary with my older frames. I did not try the motion detection or the video feature, because I don't use these functions.

If you are going to purchase a NIX frame, make certain that you get the NIX 12D model. You will not be disappointed. Not sure if it is currently available in other than the 12" size, but I am certain it will be available shortly, if not available already.

Hope this review is helpful.

Yes my five star review for the NIX X12D Digital Photo Frame is for the product itself BUT more importantly it is for the AMAZING customer service assistance my wife and I received from Daryl. The frame is for our grandson who has severe autism. At age 18 he doesn't yet talk and bounces off the walls. However, one of his favorite past times is sitting still for hours and watching videos of all the fun times we've had as a family - swimming, going on amusement park rides, sled riding, playing on park swings, etc. He has been using for years an older digital frame from Brookstone that played videos from our Casio Exilim camera. Up until recently all was well, but now with our videos being created with more updated cameras AND iPhones, his older digital frame was useless - it couldn't utilize the new video formats. Thus we purchased the NIX X12D. However, we found that although all of our videos from the past 8 years could be played on the NIX system, we needed to first convert them to MP4 format . We had no idea how to go about doing this - and we had 10GB of videos. We called NIX and explained the issue to Daryl. He spent over an hour PATIENTLY helping my wife, who by her own admission is a non-techie grandmother, to convert all videos which now work PERFECTLY on the new digital frame. We wish we could send Daryl a video to show him the delight that his "above and beyond" customer service produced for our happy grandson. Thank you NIX for not only building a capable, sturdy system (our grandson is not always gentle with electronics - so far so good) but more importantly for hiring support personnel such as Daryl who go the extra mile.

The Birthday Boy was thrilled with his gift. So far, he has loaded a few hundred photos from domestic travels, and next he'll add overseas trips. Happy I did not pick a smaller size! 12" yields about 9 3/4" by 7 1/2" of viewing. Landscape photos are easy to view. Portrait-oriented photos are reduced to accommodate the landscape-oriented position (about 7 1/2' by 4").

Photo quality is great, colors look natural, loading super easy, etc. We love, love, love it! One wish is that it was battery operated, having to plug in altered our plan where to place it. Now just have to hope that it lasts a few years as I read in OTHER product reviews this was sometimes a problem (hopefully not with this wonderful NIX). Remember 12"!

Just got this as a present for my parents, who do not have internet or WiFi at home.

The frame does its job OK, but there are some drawbacks. First of all, this is not high-quality hardware. Don't think Apple. It's cheap and flimsy plastic all over.

The frame as received shipped with an old firmware, from last July. This did not have the language choice options mentioned in the manual. So I downloaded the new firmware and got the language choices. Unfortunately, the new firmware (1.18) broke the option to display images by file creation date (at least then the language is set to something other than English. I haven't checked when it's set to English). Be warned.

Other issue: The image display interval has only very few choices. You have either one minute or one hour. Please give us many more choices, from 1s to 1 week with at least two steps per decade.

The display is only 800x600 (at least it's IPS). In this day and age, I would like a retina display. Anybody making such a product?

On the plus side, the remote is a nice addition and two ports (USB and SD memory card) are convenient.

Finally, the power adapter works with 240 V. Wish the cable was longer.

I bought two to run a photo slideshow during a wedding reception, and then gift one each to the bride's parents and the wedding couple. The frame came with a small USB memory stick to which I downloaded the digital photo files for the slideshow. Because one of the options of the frame is to display by file name order, I named each file by number in the order I wanted the images to appear. Once the image files were loaded onto the included USB drive, I plugged the frame into the power source, plugged in the USB drive, and followed the very simple set-up options offered (which only took about 3-4 minutes). The slide show ran perfectly, and the images were displayed with great color and brightness right out of the box.

This frame size was perfect to show off the images, and was at a great price point. I didn't try the video display function, but it has that feature (unlike so many other brands). Overall I found this digital frame to be easy to use, it has a great display, and it is a great value. I will likely buy another for display in my office, and maybe even a few to load with photo files and gift to family this Christmas.

After buying the X15D and finding it to be a very well designed product, I decided to get the 12" version. I didn't realize I actually ordered the X12C, the prior iteration of the 12" frame. While trying the X12C unit, some of the photos caused it to freeze. I read all the discussion about the limitations of the 12C (resolution mostly), I called NIX to see why my photos were causing it to freeze. NIX support was outstanding: I got the human person after a 2-3 minute hold, she listened to me, asked all the right questions, sent me some photos to diagnose the problem. I was under a time constrain to get this frame working (had an important presentation coming up in a few days), and did't want to take my chances with the 12C, so I asked NIX to replace it with the X12D. Within an hour NIX emailed me a return label for the X12C, and later that day I got the notification that X12D was shipped. I received the X12D within 2 days and it's working flawlessly. The motion sensor is very reliable and it wakes up almost instantly from standby, the photo display quality is excellent, the remote control is a study in minimalist design which is a great PLUS (with dozens of remotes around the house, I like my remotes to be very simple, no interest in wasting my time trying to figure how it works). Neither the 15D nor the 12D had a single hick-up with any of the photos. I accidentally copied some non-picture files on the USB stick, and the frame just bypassed it instead of freezing up. I've had the 15D for a few weeks now, and the 12D for over a week, and not a single problem so far.

Unit arrived yesterday and today I prepared it for presentation as a Christmas present. I have 292 .jpg photos in an album, and loaded a new SDHC 32gb card (FAT32 format). Upon inserting the card into the SD slot, I was presented with a screen that stated that acknowledged the pics on the SD card, but that followed with a message that states that the unit is unable to read the SD card. I will work it a bit and follow up here.
I just tried to use an USB thumb drive with my photos (also formatted FAT32), and the same error occurred. I conclude that I got a defective unit, and will return it to Amazon.

This is easy to install photos using a computer and a USB drive. I purchased an 32 GB SanDisk Cruzer Fit CZ33 and it should hold a lot of photos and videos. It can be set up just to show photos, or videos, or both. It can be used horizontally or vertically but you may have to orient your photos on your computer before installing on the photo frame. The time that a photo is displayed is also variable.
The plate on the back can be removed to reveal holes for wall mount.
The one drawback is that the frame doesn't come in different colors.

One key feature makes this better than a competitive product I also own: if you're using an 8 GB card in your DSLR camera you will have more than 800 photos. NIX allows you to resume viewing your photos in sequence from the previous viewing session. It does not begin again with your first photo. If you have ~800 photos at 15 second intervals it will take more than three hours to see all of your photos in one sitting. Not practical. I commend NIX's customer service. They immediately understood my concern and responded quickly.

I'm an old lady and was able to do it! You simply plug the frame into an outlet, near your computer, and it does most everything for you. Now, take the included USB, stick it into the back of your computer, download pics from your computer onto this USB, take it out, now put it into the digital frame, and you are good to go. I fixed all my photos on the computer first, so had no problems with heads being cut off, or things upside down.
