does this protect against heavy steam, like if you want to read in the hot tub?

I don't think so it is water resistant not water proof

It does not protect against water or steam. It is water resistant but not water proof.

as for the OtterBox that is a negative it does not protect against steam. it is only splash proof and shock resistance. That is what they mean when they say water resistance! For it to be water proof it would have to be completely sealed in a case and this one is just snapped together and then rapped around with a neoprene skin to help against splashing and dropping. i hope this helped.

The protective case is made in hard plastic which can withstand heat heavy steam, however care must be made with regards to keeping it long in hot water. I think the plastic my melt in extremely high temperatures

The casing does not make it waterproof and the seal would not be protective enough against steam.
