Might purchase LeapPad 2 for my 4 yr old daughter. Also noticed the Kindle Fire is on sale today for $129.00 Do you think Kindle Fire is appropriate?

I think the Leap Pad(s) are better because the kids will not get "lost" on pages/functions they don't know how to use. The kindle does play video well though(don't they watch enough anyway?) Go to the leapfrog website and check out the apps 1st maybe(although they can get spendy)

I think the Leap Pad 2 is most appropriate for a 4 yr old. It's also more appealing when presented to a 4yr old than the kindle. The kindle fire will do the job and an adult could use it too.
