How's the battery life for this camera? I recently purchased a Sony NEX-F3. Navigating the menu drains the battery very quickly. I'm thinking about returning the Sony and get the GX1 instead. Hopefully the GX1 does not have similar issue? Thanks.
Prior to my purchase I read a lot of negative comments about the battery life. Personally, up to this point, I have not been disappointed. I did purchase 2 spare batteries, but so far, I haven't had to use them. I don't shoot for hours at a time, but still, off and on, it's not bad.
Short. If you want to show your pics as you shoot, long LCD use, you will get 100 exposures or less. Otherwise, with normal use, 3 sec view each pic, about 200 exposures. Buy an extra battery. I had a GF1 and the battery lasted a lot longer b'cause it is 60% bigger. The GX1 is a great little camera, I have 2 now, one for color and one for B&W. Battery life is affected by your settings. In a way, you can determine its life. Cutting brightness in the LCD, editing at the end of the day and turning the camera off between long breaks will help a lot.
Its been good for me. I haven't shot much video with the camera so if that's your intention, I can't answer for the battery life. But I've used the camera shooting with the EVF accessory for all day trips and never had any problems.
The battery life has been good for me. I bought the camera right before vacation and took many pictures over the course of a week. I believe I recharged the battery daily but the battery never died. I just wanted a full battery for each day since I was taking so many pictures. However, I've only used the camera sporadically since so I'm not sure how the battery life would be now if I was using it as much as I was when I first bought it.
The rear LCD consumes a lot of battery power so I use Electronic View Finder and use rear LCD for reviewing. With that set up I have not noticed battery life too short. I didn't test it very scientifically so what I am saying here is based on my actual usage. And I always carry an extra battery to be safe.
The specs for the GX1 indicate approximately 150-170 min when recording still images and 65-75 min when recording motion pictures, while playback would get approximately 240-290 min. I have not tested the battery life so can not comment on how real life use of the camera compare to the stated specs. However, from my experience of using the GX1 the battery life has not been an issue at all. The GX1 remains one of my favorite cameras.
