Luis Leante wrote a gem of a novel and it is no surprise that this book won the Premio Alfaguara de Novela 2007. Without having read anything from this author before, I trusted the many articles and editorial reviews that I read about Mira si yo te querre. It would not be fair to go into details about this book but I will say the descriptions of the Sahara, the characters, the main theme and the narration are the strong points of this novel. The locations mentioned inspired me to look up some these places in Northern Africa to better appreciate the descriptions. The love story of Montse and Santiago and Montse's quest to find her "Santiago San Roman" in the Sahara is moving. Luis Leante's research and hard work has resulted in a one of a kind book. Well worth the read and the award.

This novel received the Alfagura Literary Award last March. I had my reserves about a romance that include a Spaniard and a Saharaui woman in the middle of the Polisario war against Spain. The romance include a threesome love affair. The Barcelona doctor that got pregnant by the soldier who went to fight the Polisario and felt for an arab girl and the girl who -au contraire to my ideas- also felt for the European. So it is intrigue, well elaborated, moving ravishly between present, past and future to give a lovely story that Passion and Commitment can survive even the desert hot sands and the wars....

Vale la pena sentarse a leer esta joya de novela que me dejó deseando que continuara un par de capítulos más. Los personajes son de carne y hueso y el lector siente como si estuviera a su lado, sintiendo lo que sienten ellos. La novela merece el premio que ganó.

I opened this book out of curiosity, intending to just read the first paragraph, but once I started I couldn't put it down. I read the whole book in one weekend.
I'm not a native Spanish speaker, but this book was easy for me to read. The author paints vivid pictures of the Saharan desert and of all the characters of the novel without resorting to obscure, flowery words that you wouldn't hear in everyday speech.
And the story is amazing. It moves easily between the past and the present, between Barcelona and the Sahara - every time offering you another piece of the story so that the farther along you go, the more clearly you understand what has happened and is happening. The morning after I finished this novel, I woke up still thinking about it.

Es un novela academicamente bien escrita, con una historia llena de situaciones que se desarrollan en lugares remotos y diferentes. Pero me resulto confuso por los cambios muy bruscos de escenas, personajes, tiempos y lugares ¡hay que estar muy despierto, atento y concentrado en la lectura para no perderse!
Aun siendo un buen libro, no puedo comprender por que obtuvo un premio tan valioso.

El autor es excelente, te hace vivir la vida de los personajes, te hace estar en los lugares que el describe, puedes sentir el calor, la humedad, el dolor, la angustia de los diferentes personajes, te hace conocer una cultura que describe con tantos detalles y sencilles que simplemente crees que vienes de ahi, y lo mejor de todo es el final, NUNCA nadie se imaginaria el final, es tan impactante que te transporta de forma magica a ese momento y te hace sentir como si un gran velo se remueve de enfrente de tus ojos. Sencillamente genial, sin desperdicio en ninguna pagina.

Al inicio del libro me resultó un poco confuso, por los cambios de tiempo, personajes y términos propios de la cultura saharaui. Pero luego que se va desarrollando la trama resulta bastante interesante y sumamente descriptivo. Coincido con los demás comentarios en que uno se ve sentado en el desierto, puedes sentir el viento o el calor.

No es una novela muy romántica, para el título que tiene cualquiera pensaría otra cosa. Se trata más bien de las vueltas que puede dar la vida de dos personas que en su juventud se quisieron, que tomaron rumbos opuestos y que al final uno de ellos (derrotada y sin mayor incentivo para vivir) decide aventurarse para saber que fue de la vida del otro.

El final es totalmente inesperado, yo me quede en shock!!! no me podia dormir. Yo veía que las paginas se estaban terminando y la historia no llegaba a una conclusión, me estaba preparando para un "continuará..." jajaja pero fui sorprendida por el final. No es el que yo hubiera preferido, pero es bien original.

Precioso libro, preciosa evocación. Refleja acertadamente una trama política, una trama humana y por sobre todo, una trama romántica muy bien narrada. Muy bien utilizados los recursos literarios que reflejan el paso del tiempo. Triste, realista, "Mira si yo te querré" es una bonita novela. Bien hecho Leante, espero tu próxima novela.

Muy bonito. Tarde mucho en comprarlo porque no me convencia eso de que una mujer se va en busca de un hombre, pero valio la pena. La historia es realmente linda.

Leante crea una historia invadida por 2 culturas muy diferentes entre sí. Introduce las situaciones de una manera aparentemente sin relación la una con la otra pero planteadas de tal manera que el lector no olvida con qué se relacionarán más tarde. Los personajes muy bien logrados pero lo que más me gusto es la increíble capacidad detallista que tiene el autor. El detalle es descrito hasta su textura. Me llegué a sentí como si yo estuvie presente al lado de los personajes. El final... bueno qué final.
