One more question, please. While things are being downloaded between my computer and the Garmin, will the Garmin go into "sleep mode" and shut down the display but continue receiving the download.

Despite warnings that the battery must be fully charged, the USB cable I use continues charging the Garmin while data is downloading. After an overnight map download my Garmin is ON and CHARGED.

Yes, I am pretty sure that is correct. It's been awhile since I downloaded my maps but I do remember the screen went dark and I had no idea if it was downloading or not but the next day all the maps were loaded and it works great.

I don't really know. I set it up before I go to bed and then it is all downloaded by morning.
