1.0 out of 5 stars This is not worth buying May 17, 2013
By M. Moss
Format:Kindle Edition
I'm really amazed that several people have e-published books such as this about waist-high raised beds that are simply wooden boxes solidly filled with soil. Such depth of soil is unnecessary and undesirable, since only the top 10" of soil will be used, and so much soil in a receptacle such as this will compact and become unusable. People in wheelchairs would find this contraption useless, as working on it from up above--in a standing position--would be the only way to cope with that deep soil. The author clearly is not a good writer, and he sure isn't a well-experienced gardener. Those are two good reasons not to buy what I would venture to describe as a "bogus" publication. While the concept is good, it isn't thought through well enough to be useful.

In my viewpoint, it is very misleading and inappropriate for this e-book to be on the best-selling list in the Container category--or any category, for that matter. There are other well-written raised-bed/off-ground gardening books available and I would strongly suggest that prospective book shoppers take a little time to look over those alternatives.

5.0 out of 5 stars This ebook can save your back October 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Sometimes an idea comes along that is very simple but can make a huge difference to your life. Most people's idea of gardening is of stooping over flower or vegetable beds weeding, then putting a hand to the back to support it in straightening up again.

I had heard of raised beds, but hadn't realised just how high they could be raised. This Kindle ebook is for waist high beds, although of course this must be a loose term, as everyone's waist is not at the same height.

Nevertheless, if you're very tall (or small) there is no reason the measurements given can't be adjusted. Whatever your height, though, this short ebook can bring a very useful addition to your life in the form of your own vegetable beds.

So if you have been putting off having your own vegetable plot because of all the bending and stooping, you need do so no longer. The simple, clear, complete instructions given will soon have you preparing to plant yourself a ready supply of fresh vegetables and herbs.

Not only is gardening a healthy form of exercise, but it's one that in recessionary times can save a lot of money while providing you with the very best in nutrition, not to mention the most natural convenience foods you can get.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love my raised beds January 29, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I had this built for me by the person that produced this ebook. After he had made lower ones for people with different needs I requested one that was waist high so I did not need to bend as I have problems with my back. I previously grew things in the garden but this had been put on hold until I got my raised beds. I love the fact that Blackbirds can adapt the boxes to fit anyone. It has been made deep so that vegetables that need a good depth can be grown. To remove the vegetables you just need to pull so I do not have any problems at all with the depth. Last summer I grew loads of vegetables so feel great that I can eat fresh produce again.

This was his first book that I encouraged him to write to enable others to help themselves so I say well done.

4.0 out of 5 stars Above ground! November 17, 2013

I have been building a library of resource books and this one fit well. Somethings are easily handled at home and I like to have options. Great resource when gardening isn't working the 'traditional' way.
