Yes. There are free kindle apps for apple devices. ereadernewstoday.com is a good website for free kindle books as well.

In addition to kindle app (which I'm using to read a library book at the moment), you can also read google books without owning an android device (everyone who installs the google books apps get 3 free classic books). But I do find reading on it while holding it up with one arm tiring. I plan to use only at home/long distance travel.
