I'm glad! Truth is, I'm NOT the most knowledgeable person in the world about this stuff, though I do know how non amplified speakers like these are supposed to be ran! I also count on other Amazon member's knowledge to keep me informed. Like I said, there's clearly a lot of people wondering if they can run speakers without having to add amplification.

Just like everyone else has said: You need a receiver to power these speakers. It has nothing to do with what kind of TV or TV service you have. These speakers will be plugged into a receiver and nothing else.

My advice to people that are confused by this is to buy a Home Theatre System which usually comes with a bluray/dvd player and amplifier and speakers. It will come with everything you need and will be less confusing.

Yep. Bought them 2 years ago, not knowing anything about this stuff. I found out the hard way. Still haven't bought a receiver.

You say this needs an amplifier. I'm thinking of getting these for my in-laws who have a blu-ray dvd player, but no speakers. Does the blu-ray work as an amplifier, or is a separate amplifier needed?
