this will not work with 3 rechargeable batteries! Why didn't the description tell me so I'd be prepared! wouldn't have bought this then.

I have rechargeable Ni Cad batteries in mine and it works fine. I have used regular batteries as well. Nice bright light. Hope this helps.

It says in the description that it requires three D size batteries. I think if it could use rechargeable batteries they would have stated that in writing, sorry to hear it did'nt meet your needs.
Used mine a few times already, great bright lantern, works great!

First, you are wrong; rechargeable batteries do work with this lantern just fine. Second, the issue of using rechargeable batteries has previously been discussed in a previous question (before this question there was only four questions so I'm not sure how anyone could miss it).

Yes it will, but it will not be as bright for the first few hours running due to the lower nominal voltage of rechargeable cells.
