ChromaSphere is a full 3d action/arcade game with a hint of puzzle for Android 2.1+ devices and Kindle Fire. Using the accelerometer/gyro of your phone or tablet steer the chromasphere to the end of the level within the bronze, silver and gold times to win medals.

Can you beat the challenge of getting gold medals on every level?

Background

"Every year, the Ancient Laputians picked a small selection of their most gifted to undertake a series of complex tests. These tests were called the "Laputian Trials" in which those who entered got the chance to prove their superior skill and cunning."

"The first of these tests was a demonstration of their mind control over the magical lodestones. These lodestones were encased in ball of stone called a 'Chromasphere'."

"Inside each Chromasphere was a tiny piece of Lodestone taken from the largest lodestone in existence and one that holds aloft the greatest sky city of them all: Laputa."

This is your chance to enter the first Laputian Trial yourself and prove your superior lodestone mind control.

If you love games like Marble Madness or Super Monkey Ball you'll love this!

When I first tried this game, I felt a bit like a lab mouse trying to complete a complex maze. The game seems quite simple, but lots of skill and patience are involved. On the description page of this App, the screen shots include a 4:20 tutorial video.

Basically, you use your device's tilt feature to control your ball as it rolls through a maze. As you advance, there are increasingly difficult challenges. One of the trickiest is the moving platforms. Also, mazes increase in complexity and it becomes easier to get lost.

You control how fast or slow the ball rolls by how steeply you tilt your device. The steeper you tilt, the more momentum your ball will gain and the faster it will roll. While the controls are very intuitive, mastery over how to best use them is challenging.

Because you can control ball speed pretty well, successful level completion is more within reach. There are other ball roller Apps out there where you are immediately catapulted forward at great speed. This game is not like that, so the frustration factor is lessened. Also, the maze walls seem a bit more forgiving making it easier to not fall off the track.

On the options page, you are given the opportunity to calibrate and tweak the controls. You can test them before actual game play.

Overall, this is a pretty good App. You can tell that a lot of effort went into developing this game. The graphics are good and and movement within the mazes is very fluid. To me, the game's "music" sounds like meditation bells and it can be muted. This App takes up 39.25 MB of memory on my Kindle Fire HD.

UPDATE 04/11/2013 5:24 P.M. EST:

My ten-year old daughter began playing this game after she got home from school today. She loves it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Keep on rollin' April 10, 2013

Test devices:
HTC EVO LTE 4G, stock ICS
Samsung Epic, Cyanogen 9 RC1 (Android 4)
Viewsonic gTablet, TeamDRH ICS 1.3 (Android 4)

Oh the fun of gyros and acceleration sensors. Chromosphere is yet another ball roller game, which utilizes your device's internal sensors for control. Having played many games of this type or similar, I was rather impressed with the level of precision in the control Chromasphere had across all three devices I tried it on. Thankfully, Redmotion also included axis adjustments in the options menu for adjusting the zero tilt point. This allows you to hold your device as you like, rather than being stuck with what the developer thinks your playing style is or should be. They went yet a step further by allowing you to control the ball in the menu, so you can try out the adjustments you've made before you actually started playing.

Across all three devices, the visuals were excellent. Obviously a lot of time and work went into making Chromasphere look good. Even scaled up on the 10" tablet, the lines were pretty crisp. For those with lesser devices, there are options for turning the visuals down, giving the CPU/GPU a break. This translates into the game not looking as good, but playing more smoothly. Honestly, I didn't need to turn anything down on any of mine, even the older Samsung with its 1GHz single core CPU and Mali CPU.

The soundtrack was kind of disappointingly dull. To me it sounded like someone tapping a chime repeatedly, and that got to the point of being annoying within just a few levels. I can at least say the the tempo matched the game, not too fast nor too slow. The soundtrack and sound effects were both of professional quality, but not something to rave about. They're just there.

4.0 out of 5 stars Challenging roller April 11, 2013

It's a graphically appealing app where you run a course by tilt control.
You can win medals by beating certain times and remove blocks by collecting gems of the same color.
Your neutral position is adjustable in settings.
The music is boring, I turned it off.
One problem is that if you want any chance to win gold in a level, you have to choose maximum expert sensitivity or won't be fast enough - which means you have to be very precise when turning.
There could be more levels but it has some replay value.
How about getting gold in every level...

4.0 out of 5 stars rolling ball fun April 11, 2013
Verified Purchase
i wanted to give this game 5 stars to offset the bad reviews a bit, but i had to dock a star for the confusing menu navigation. i am enjoying this game a lot - it's like seven stars 3D only much easier, and i like how the camera automatically turns as you go, gameplay is good, not too frustrating so long as you give up the idea of earning any medals - but i have no idea what level i'm on, for starters. after you finish a level you have the option to go forward, back, or replay, but no option to return to the main menu or to choose a level. i used my back button to get out & choose a level, but it was very confusing, letting me choose a world instead and i can't figure out how far i've actually gotten. the navigation (not in the game itself, but in the menus) could stand some improvement. also, unlike other reviewers, i was unable to test the calibration while adjusting it, so i just had to guess.

i love a good rolling ball/maze game and this is one of the better ones. i give it five stars for gameplay and three stars for confusing menus, which averages out to four stars. i feel entirely neutral about the music. it's nothing great but it's not grating either, and doesn't distract from gameplay. i say grab this game while it's FAOTD, and if you miss it, try the free version of this game, to see if you like it, before buying.

Although it is nothing super duper special, it's a fun way to waste some time. It's definitely worth a try.
