Although the author states from the start that this is a fictional account(as an apology to
eroding memories),it is obvious that no one could make up this riveting and rare first person account
of the feel, the smell, and the sweat endured by F4 Phantom pilots near the peak
of Vietnam air operations in this hell of 1966.Descriptions of arduous life on an airbase underscore the realism.
Major Barker enhances the reader's enjoyment throughout the book
by his frequent simple explanations of technical terms and "fighter pilot speak".
I found particularly interesting the special section near the end detailing many operational facts of the aircraft itself.
Anyone wanting a genuine and rare glimpse into the life of an F4 Phantom driver need look no further.Fasten your seatbelt.

I must first state that I am not independent of this author; he is my uncle. Accordingly, my review is from a different perspective. When I read the book it gave me a perspective about things my uncle never talked about. I knew he had been in Vietnam but I did not know much about what he did. The rest of my family can probably make the same statement. I found the book very interesting. I found myself thinking, "you did that?". Unfortunately I would love to have my uncle expand the book. There are stories I know that were not mentioned in the book, for whatever reason. I have heard that some of Johnnie's associates say he was the best pilot they ever flew with. This book explains some of that; the book is a great read. We should ask all of our uncles, and other relatives to write their stories!

This is an account of my brothers experiences in Vietnam and is educational as well as exciting. I reccomend this to anyone that doesn't actually know what took place in Vietnam.
