Good mixer for the money
I needed a stand mixer, and Amazon had this as the lightning deal of the day. For the price, it was a bargain. I did not realize the stand was plastic, or I probably wouldn't have bought it. I'm glad I didn't know. The plastic is solid and it does its job. I haven't had the mixer long, but I haven't had any problems with it. I do have experience with sunbeam products,...

every design was wrong, May 30, 2008
This review is from: Sunbeam 2379 Mixmaster 300-Watt 12-Speed Stand Mixer with Stainless-Steel Bowl (Kitchen)
I bought this mixer online, and i couldn't have been more disappointed. It looks good in the picture, but everything about it is just a little bit wrong. This mixer drives me crazy! I wish i had bought any mixer but this.
First of all, it looks like a nice metal mixer with a metal bowl. Well, the bowl is metal, but the rest of it is just painted silver! It's just made of cheap plastic.
Second of all, the dial on the right with all the speeds on it: from the look of it, the mixer has several speeds, one for each number. However when you try to turn the knob, what you find is that it has three speeds- low, medium, and high. The numbers are there for decoration!
Then we come to the two metal mixing blades. One of them has an annoying plastic piece on the end that is always getting food stuck in it. I've had plenty of mixers that are designed well so that they don't have to have this hard-to-clean part. It gets food stuck on both the inside and the outside of the little plastic part on the end.
The bowl has two problems. (Well, there is a large and a small bowl, but they have the same problems.) The top edge of the bowl curls around the top to make a little lip. This is fine, but the lip is not actually closed! It's ALMOST closed. That means when food gets in there, it's almost impossible to clean out. Also, i got metal bowls because i thought i could use them for other things too- such as handy popcorn bowls. But the bottom of the bowls lock on to the mixer with pokey metal bits, so holding those metal bowls in your lap can be uncomfortable and snag your clothes!
This mixer does not have a lot of power for mixing heavy dough, and you can't turn it to a speed and walk away (you have to hold the bowl or the mix will pack up in the mixer blades) but I wouldn't expect those things from a mixer this price. So that part is fine.
However, those other things are all just design decisions. There are plenty of other mixers in this price range that don't do all those terrible things. Buy any mixer but this, really! This one is just a waste of money.

Not So Great, April 30, 2007
This review is from: Sunbeam 2379 Mixmaster 300-Watt 12-Speed Stand Mixer with Stainless-Steel Bowl (Kitchen)
I wanted a Kitchen Aid and got this instead. I wish I had saved my money and got the Kitchen Aid. It isn't strong enough to mix all the ingredients of anything I've tried to mix. I constantly have to stop the mixer and hand mix because the ingredients on the edge of the bowl doesn't get mixed in with the batter. This is horrible with homemade mashed potatoes. I have to hand do those with my potato masher.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!, October 13, 2007
This review is from: Sunbeam 2379 Mixmaster 300-Watt 12-Speed Stand Mixer with Stainless-Steel Bowl (Kitchen)
I recieved this as a gift for christmas last year and have had nothing but problems! After only a handful of uses the prongs on the bowls that attatch to the mixer came off of each bowl. After Sunbeam sent me a new set of bowls, the mixer itself stopped working. It just gradually slowed mixing until it stopped altogether. Sunbeam sent me a new mixer and I am not sure how long this one will last but now I have a broken mixer and two sets of bowls that are useless taking up space! I feel bad because my husband purchased it and he thought he got the deal of a century because I had wanted a mixer for years!!
Please spend the extra money and get a good quality mixer!

Not Good :-(, January 8, 2008
This review is from: Sunbeam 2379 Mixmaster 300-Watt 12-Speed Stand Mixer with Stainless-Steel Bowl (Kitchen)
I purchased this mixer thinking that it wudnt be that bad as it is made of chrome steel. But as soon as i opened the package i was very disappointed. Its steel plated and the inside is ALL plastic. I tried kneading small amount of bread using the smaller vessel and the mixer started to slide on the countertop. The upper part of the mixer was shaking as if its going to break or cause some accident. This is with a very small amount of dough, imagine how its going to be if i use the bigger vessel with more dough. This is NOT FOR DOUGH KNEADING. I woudnt pay $80 for a mixier that coudnt knead. Si i just returned it.
If you knead a light mixer like for whipping, cake mixing etc it might be good but not for dough kneading.

Sunbeam Mixmaster Stand Mixer, Chrome, June 14, 2008
This review is from: Sunbeam 2379 Mixmaster 300-Watt 12-Speed Stand Mixer with Stainless-Steel Bowl (Kitchen)
I was disappointed in this mixer after having used Sunbeam mixers throughout my 45 year marriage. I use a mixer frequently and want one that has a detached head. Hand mixers are not powerful enough for my needs.
This mixer was plastic. The bowls required twisting into holding slots. The beaters were similar to hand mixer beaters--not heavy duty. I returned the mixer, had my old one repaired, and bought a 1980 model on e-bay to keep as a spare.

Good mixer for the money, February 16, 2009
This review is from: Sunbeam 2379 Mixmaster 300-Watt 12-Speed Stand Mixer with Stainless-Steel Bowl (Kitchen)
I do have experience with sunbeam products, though, and I feel confident that if any issues arise they will repair or replace the mixer. I see others comparing this to the kitchenaid mixers, and I just don't think that's fair. Compare items in the same price range, and you will not find a better one. Yes, at some point, I would like to trade up to kitchenaid. At eight times what I paid for this one though, it had better be impressive! This model comes with two medium weight stainless bowls, whisk attachments, standard beaters, and dough hooks. I seldom bake bread, so I haven't used the dough hooks, but for cakes, cookies, and the like, it's great. If you are like me and enjoy cooking, but can't afford to spend a lot of money right now, get this. It's a bargain, even at the regular price. Just don't expect a $400 product for less than $100, and I think you'll be happy.

Not bad for the price, January 29, 2008
This review is from: Sunbeam 2379 Mixmaster 300-Watt 12-Speed Stand Mixer with Stainless-Steel Bowl (Kitchen)
I definitely wanted a KitchenAid, but not ready to commit to that investment yet since I've only recently taken up cooking/baking as a hobby. I wanted to upgrade to a stand mixer because I kept burning up hand mixers with overuse!
I'm not going to say this is the greatest mixer, but it's much more powerful & durable than a hand mixer. For people like me who only use it a couple of times a week it gets the job done (with a lot of help from a spatula, I think I read a similar comment in another review), & at least I can let it run while I multitask. For those who bake lots of breads & dishes with thick batter, spring for the expensive mixer.
Reasonable performance for the price, a good buy if you're on the fence about purchasing your first stand mixer.

Don't buy this, June 1, 2008
This review is from: Sunbeam 2379 Mixmaster 300-Watt 12-Speed Stand Mixer with Stainless-Steel Bowl (Kitchen)
I bought this mixer about 1 years ago. It LOOKS reliable , heavy, with a lot of steel built into it. It is everything but reliable. Built to last till the end of the warranty period, not a day longer. All that steel is to make sure no-one will be able to take it apart to fix it, or to see that the internal power transmission parts are made from cheap plastic.

The description of this mixer did not say it is made of cheap plastic! All it says is 'Chrome', which it definitely is not. would not purchase had I known.

Sunbeam 2379 Mixmaster Stand Mixer, Chrome, July 9, 2007
This review is from: Sunbeam 2379 Mixmaster 300-Watt 12-Speed Stand Mixer with Stainless-Steel Bowl (Kitchen)
This is a great mixer, and runs very quietly. I love the way the beaters go to the sides and bottom of the mixing bowls. The only thing I wish it had would be a handle on the bowl.
