This printer so far has performed well and we are still on the factory toners after 1171 color prints and 258 monochrome prints.
I have not had one bit of trouble with this printer. Print quality is somewhere between medium and medium-high but not definitely not glossy brochure high quality like some solid ink printers or other toner lasers that run $4000-8000. This is a great SOHO / home printer for me and family and the toner isn't a bad price. I've pursued the option to refill my own toners with high-quality toner and the pay-off rivals savings that many inkjet printers offer. Taking into consideration I do not have to worry about failed print heads, messy waste ink tanks, CISS ink systems. Other added enjoyments, this printer came with 128MB or ram on-board, has a web print engine inside the printer with administrative functions. Another nice thing is the printer sit and not worry about having to flush your ink nozzles every so often or ink drying up or causing issues, really even the toner in this laser printer has not made a single mess or smudge yet.
It is a little on the heavy side and is what I call medium on the foot print but it doesn't get moved much, has Ethernet and Wifi for connectivity so it has found its place and is a good match for my needs and price point. Only cons I have noticed is that the paper drawer feels a bit on the flimsy side and the printer seems to have an annoying green mode that puts the printer to sleep after extended periods of no use. All-in-all I consider the two cons very minor and still like the printer very much, though I may have a different opinion later if the paper tray should ever break...

I've had the printer about a year or so and I've been very very happy with it. My usage is admittedly quite light...I print probably an average of 5-8 pages (mostly black/white typed business documents) a week anymore but it's done a great job and none of the ink markers even indicate a change yet. I have printed a number of photos and it does a decent job for my purposes. It's been 100% reliable and issue free so far.

We LOVE this color laser. We've printed pictures, newsletters, cards, envelope addresses... lots of different things for home use. Love duplex and the shoot to use different paper or sizes.

I'm writing this review to make sure that people know there is a trick with the ink to save you hundreds of dollars.

We've had the printer for a couple of years now and we're still on the starter cartridges. I've read that Brother printers put a mechanism in their printers (different for different types) to make users put in new ink before the ink runs out.. when there is still tons of ink left. The printer will stop printing until you replace the cartridge... even if it says it's out of magenta and you just want to print in black.

I was frustrated that the printer told me it was out of ink and stopped printing when it seemed like my color prints were still printing great. Normally other printers will keep printing and you'll see banding in your color when the ink really runs out.

For this printer, there is an internal toner counter that tells the printer when to stop printing because "the ink is too low." When you get this error do the following steps:

Open the front cover that exposes the toner cartridges.
The "Cover Open" message appears on the printer.
Press the "Cancel" and "Secure" buttons at the same time.
You will now see the secret toner counter reset menu.
Press the down arrow until you see the toner cartridge and type you wish to set to zero.
Press "OK" and the up-arrow to save your selection.
Display should say "Accepted"
Display will go back to the "Close Cover" message.

One you do that, your printer will magically start printing again.

It's a nasty trick to play on customers and I want to give Brothers a two star review just to spite them. However, we love this printer and have had no issues. Other people have reported getting almost twice the amount of life out of a cartridge by resetting the counter. Once you know the trick, you'll get the full life of ink cartilages and the joke is on them.

Please spread the word!

Print quality is adequate, but the cost of supplies for this printer is very high. Four toner cartridges (three color plus B&W) is well over $300. Of course that's the case for many/most printers, but when you're getting only ~3.5-4k pages per set of cartridges, that's rather expensive.

The printer never worked. The carriage had been forced into the unit and the unit could not be used.

I have not had any problems. Refills are pricey- but not too bad. For our purposes it was a good investment.
