Very good telescope for the price,

Definitely a step above department store scopes, and a good value for the price. Decent eyepieces to start with, but the 10mm is not too user friendly. Plan on spending $60 to $125 dollars or so to get a wide expanse eyepiece in the 12mm to 15mm range. It will make it much easier to locate and keep a fix on the planets. An alternative would be a barlow lens, but the images are still a little fuzzy around the edges. I was able to find Jupiter this evening with the 25mm lens, and although it is small, the detail was excellent and I could distinguish the bands and three of it's moons. The only problem that I had was the light shield on the tube was loose and would come off when the scope was pointed below vertical. Tech support was very nice and said that I could return it, but a piece of duct tape between the tube and the light shield gave the housing enough friction to stay in place and does not show. Overall, a good telescope for the beginner or intermediate astronomy buff.
