3.0 out of 5 stars Too many non-Japanese recipes, January 11, 2012
This review is from: The Just Bento Cookbook: Everyday Lunches To Go (Paperback)
The book is beautifully produced, but its focus is nutrition rather than traditional recipes. If you're a major Japanese food fan, as I am, the book will be a disappointment. However, the author has a great website also called "Just Bento" and it provides loads of traditional food info.

If you look at its cover or read the description before you buy it, the contents of the book will not be a surprise.

I just came back from Japan after a 3 year job stint and I'm now in the US/midwest. While this book doesn't have as many traditional recipes, I think it's still great because there is no way I could be able to buy the ingredients where I live now. Even in my native NJ, where there is a Japanese superstore (Mitsuwa), I am still limited to what I can get. I think this book did a good job with that taken into consideration.

Perhaps you are referring to fresh ingredients when you say it's hard to find traditional Japanese ingredients, but have you considered ordering shelf-stable ingredients online for home delivery?
