Danielle La Porte is like the best friend we all wish we had: she is funny, practical and sympathetic. In general, I am not a fan of self-help books, so I expected to dislike this one. However, I was pleasantly surprise by this book and even ordered a copy for a friend.
What makes this different from a lot of other self-help books is that La Porte freely admits that she has had her failures. She is very up-front about them, doesn't blame anyone for them and emphasizes time and again that is not the end of the world to fail. Her tips for overcoming one's fears are practical. I did some of them and was surprised not only by how simple they were, but that they worked. While much of this book is about succeeding in business, this book would be helpful for anyone going through a major life change such as divorce or has been stuck in a rut over what they perceive as failures in their personal life.
Lastly, La Porte never comes across as preachy as many in her field tend to do. Her tips at the end of the book are practical, and she even includes a list of (good) music that inspired her while she was writing the book. (And to her credit, there is not a New Age tune amongst them.) Overall, a great read for anyone who wants to get their mojo back.
