4.0 out of 5 stars A bare bones phone......, September 8, 2010
This review is from: Nokia 2720 S40 Unlocked Flip Phone with 1.3 MP Camera with Bluetooth--US Version with Full Warranty (Wireless Phone Accessory)
A good cell phone, but absolutely no peripheral features.
The good: Very clear voice qualities, acceptable speaker phone function. SUPER cheap ~ AT&T now has this phone as a "(prepaid) GO Phone" @ $9.99 new or $7.99 reconditioned) , somewhat strange but very user friendly key board, nice size, camera fairly good. Absolutely unexcelled Bluetooth connectivity with anything other than my P.C. ~ Grabs my Intellitouch X Link (bluetooth) as soon as I pull into my drive.
The bad (or less than `good'): Speaker phone may only be engaged AFTER call is initiated. Absolutely NO means of linking with PC by means of USB cable, no memory card capabilities anyway. VERY limited internal memory, P/C- Bluetooth connectability listed buy apparently not supported, I can't figure how to get the VERY LIMITED pictures out of the phone. `Recording' function apparently for phone dialogue only. Slippery, smooth greasy feeling exterior may be negated by adding a "rubberized" snap-on cover.
Overall critique: For use as a cell phone VERY adequate, easy to use. For anyone wanting only a bare bones, easy to use cell phone, it's great! Has virtually none of the bling-bling non-phone features most cell phone users seem to want now days. Want a good, simple cell phone (only)? Go for it!
Even though this's a prepaid phone, AT&T will assign it to a normal monthly (month-to-month) account without initiating a contract.

I'm thinking of getting this phone for my dad. He just needs a basic phone with minimial features. I did see the prepaid gophone price for $8 on the at&t website. Did they give you any trouble to switching to the normal monthly plan? How would I do that? via phone or store? I would really appreciate your help. Thanks!

Yes, I did enable two Nokia 2720 phones on a monthly plan, without a contract. If you choose the "Simple rate plan" the prepaid minutes can be deleted, leaving only the phone. This will apparently work if the AT&T site is accessed as if you were a new customer. You'll have to work around (delete) the $25. prepaid minutes they try to stiff you with. I have bought 4 of these phones without any 'prepaid minutes', 2 @ $12.99, 2 @ $9.99. I see now they're even less. DON'T GET A 'REFERB'. IMHO this is a hole in AT&Ts plan of not selling a phone without minutes. I initially started with two LG Prime GS390 (GO Phones) @99. each and sold them back to AT&T within the 30 day trial period. I see they apprently dropped that phone from the GO Phone plan. No loss. They were terrible, user unfriendly phones. I got my "GO phone" plan SIM cards with the LG phones, then changed to monthly cards at an AT&T store. An AT&T phone rep. actually suggested I do that. (Buy a GO phone and put it on monthly, thereby negating a conrtactural obligation). Sort of strange. Lots of luck. I think this's sort of slipping through the (procedural) cracks.

Has anyone else got a "Multimedia message settings not defined. Message not sent" message when trying to send a picture message? I went into the multimedia message settings and changed the settings but it's still giving me that same message. Any help would be much appreciated. I'm on T-Mobile, btw. Does this phone just not send pictures messages or what?

BEWARE: Has a camera but NO MEMORY CARD. So what's that all about? Consumer cellular stepped around my question regarding this and pushed this model and coerced me to order it. They're getting it back. Old Nokia had memory card and allowed pics to PC by simple trusty USB device.

OK for basic phone functions though.
