This review is from: Burning Your Boats: The Collected Short Stories (Paperback)
Unfortunately the story of Lizzie Borden in this editon has been edited mercilessly, a fact my English proffessor only became aware of when she was teaching from a different editon--reccommend that one try to find collection in original form--Carter is too good to be edited so thoughtlessly.

This collection contains the complete original text of "The Fall River Axe-Murders", Angela's Carter's story about axe-murderess Lizzie Borden, as it appeared in the collection "Black Venus" from U.K publisher Chatto & Windus. The collection notes "Black Venus" as the source of the stories. When that collection appeared in the U.S., it was retitled "Saints & Strangers", with the stories published in a different order, and the story "The Fall River Axe-Murders" was re-written for that edition. I read them both, and the differences are significant... so, I can see why someone assigned that story may balk at the different texts - BUT, this book contains the original, complete text. The U.S. version was the re-written version. The story was not 'edited' for this collection as this reviewer claims.
