5.0 out of 5 stars The Mother Of All Live Albums!!, May 7, 2002
This review is from: Alive! [2 CD Remastered] (Audio CD)
This is the one that started it all for me in terms of not only my becoming a hardcore Kiss fan, but more so for my becoming a musician. I was then a scrawny 10-year old kid, and hearing Ace Frehley for the first time inspired me to get a guitar and fueled my desire to play. That was 1975, just as "Alive!" was released, and now 27 years later, I not only learned how to play guitar (and play it well), but I'm STILL blown away by this album, even after hearing it literally hundreds of times!
There are so many words to describe the impact that is felt when listening to the sheer raw energy of these classic tracks; intense, incredible and life-changing are just 3 of the ones I would use! :) Every one of the songs on this album are FAR better and rock HARDER than the studio versions by a long shot! One in particular that always does it for me is the barnstorming "She", where Ace Frehley's guitar figuratively as well as literally SMOKES!! The 11-minute plus "100,000 Years" featuring a long but great drum solo by Peter Criss (and I'm really not a big fan of long solos), also finds Paul Stanley rapping with the audience and rousing them to clap their hands, bring the roof down, and stand up for what they believe in...the power of ROCK & ROLL!!
My other 2 favorites here are the (again, literally) explosive "Black Diamond", and the wild, four-on-the-floor jamming on "Let Me Go, Rock & Roll" guarantees to bring down the house; Kiss was not known to let loose and "jam" per se, but on this particular night, they were not only very much in the mood, but hitting on all cylinders. As I said in the comments on my Listmania list, this is the BEST live album ever made (and dare I say, the best album ever made, PERIOD!). The latter comment may seem unthinkable to some folks, but if you asked a majority of people what their favorite album of all time is, you're likely to hear the words Kiss "Alive!" uttered without hesitation!
Buy it and ROCK with it!!
