This review is from: The Greatest Of These Is Love (Paperback)
THE GREATEST OF THESE IS LOVE, by Dody Myers proved to be delightful reading. The characters, setting, and plot were well defined and easy to follow all through the story. As a native Pennsylvanian I enjoyed reading about the life style of the early Pennsylvania Dutch, their work ethics, spirituality, and peace loving philosophy. Each character had a well defined personality enabling me to befriend some and dislike others. I was able to feel their happiness, their sorrows and disappointments. The setting was all too familiar since I have studied and visited the Lancaster area of Pennsylvania frequently. This familiarity, along with the historic events made the story realistic. I often felt that I was right there, able to reach out, shake hands, and converse. The plot was very simple with definite contrasts and conflicts. This simplicity made the story very predictable. This is a story of some history, but more a story of peace-loving people in a time of great conflict. Dody Myers proves to be more of a storyteller than an historian. I would encourage her to write more stories.
