2 & a half stars from me...Redbox before buying (save yourself).,
This review is from: War of the Dead [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Okay, so, I'm a major zombie fan. Have been since I was 4yrs old & Thriller aired on MTV. With that said....I bought this Blu-ray + DVD pakage today. Just finished watching it. War Of The Dead isn't the worst zombie flick I've seen. But it lacks some things to be what it could have been (classic). The case/cover art is great! But too often these days, movies make awesome case covers designs. But end up being bad. War Of The Dead has a great idea....Killing Nazi zombies. That's a win-win! The picture quality is really good. The sound is good. But what lacks is more depth to the story. More action as well! It starts off with a little bit of action. Then quickly slows down. This movie is 86mins long too. And through out most of the 86mins there is only a tiny bit of action here & there. The actors aren't the best, but not the worst. Some better than others. The zombies are probably the most human-like zombies I've ever seen in a film! They don't exactly go right for the brains. Instead, they will punch people, slam them into walls,ect... They walk,run,ect.. just like you & I. And they even hide in trees and stuff. Being set in the 1940's/WW2 period is cool. They did a pretty decent job with making the actors clothing & weaponry what it was like in that time/era. Despite soldiers fighting zombies. You'll likely be like me, scratching your head at the end. Thinking what did I just watch!?! You watch a group of soldiers decrese in number after quick altercations w/ an opposing army, and then some zombie soldiers. Then it's down to 2 troops & a Russian soldier that joins the 2 US soldiers. Along the way to the main objective (a bunker which drugged soldiers, which turned them to zombies). The Russian soldier finds his girlfriend. They arrive @ the bunker, the US captian & the Russian soldier die (so does the girlfriend). Then one US soldier survives. I highly recommend Redboxing this before buying. I paid $15.99 for it. And had I known what I was getting into. I would have only paid $3.99 for this later when it's used. Like I said. Not the best flick & not the worst. I sat through it & survived.
