Unnacceptable Terms, great product, used to be great,
This review is from: Paintshop Photo Pro X3 Ultimate [OLD VERSION] (DVD-ROM)
You must agree to the following when installing, IF YOU READ THE ENTIRE THING:
1.19.3 You hereby acknowledge and consent to Corel:
monitoring your Use of the Product,
authenticating and periodically verifying your licensing rights in the Product,
collecting, transmitting, using, and sharing with Corel's third party marketing partners, data relating to you and your Use of the Product for advertising, marketing, operational and other purposes,
Altering the default setting of the computer system...are you kidding me.
This is nothing more than glorified Spyware for them.
Get Photoshop instead, it will cost more, but no pop ups from 3rd party marketing partners of Corel and they can't change setting on your System.

Help... I'm being held hostage by this software. It has taken over my computer and is now in control of my mind. I believe the CIA is involved and now knows everything I do. Warning, never use this software or you will be banned to boogie land. Thank goodness you people have discovered this plot to take over our computers and make mindless slaves of us all. Even if you have looked at this Amazon ad for this vicious software you may be infected. Make sure you reformat your C drive or your doomed like I am... Oh the humanity..

I used the trial version for an entire month, and i liked it. I did not get any pop ups. What you are saying... it happens only when you buy the software? I am thinking in buying this software, but now i am not so sure.

Don't believe everything you read. If I told you planet X was going to wipe out the earth tonight, would you cancel your morning paper? The kind of language in the EULA is not uncommon at all (almost everyone 'phones home' now) - data aggregation is worth more than the licenses for many of these vendors, and honestly, they're not doing anything that other developers aren't doing. Quality of the software leaves a lot to be desired however - I own it, and unlike earlier version (Pre-Corel) it's an unstable resource hog. It will often make my CPU peg 100% - the only way out is to kill the process.

Ringo, the problem with your argument is that consumers must trust that Corel only aggregates data. The truism coined centuries ago still remains true: caveat emptor. Consumers have no way of knowing that Corel keeps its word. Their EULA is an egregious offense to prvivacy. Of course most of the software industry enagages in the same practices. Read EULAs carefully, use a good computer security program, and understand how your computer works is the best protection.

Wow...I've been happily using Paint Shop X2 for more than a year and was prepared to upgrade until I saw this warning. I'll stick with what I've got, and move in the direction of Adobe when I'm really ready to upgrade. Thanks!

Thanks so much for taking the time to let others know about the nature of the user agreement. I was going to purchase this for my daughter. I will stick with the program we have, too bad Corel can't just sell me a product without monitoring it.

What system defaults are changed, exactly?
