Won't Play Original XBox Games!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 120GB Hard Disk Drive HDD for Xbox 360 Slim (Generic) (Video Game)
If you are planning to purchase this drive with the intention of playing your old xbox games on your shiny new 360 slim, BEWARE! This drive, like many of the other third party xbox hard drives, does not have a special partition which contains the xbox emulator software. If you try to play an original xbox game you will get a message that says "The game could not start. Please download the game again."
The only way to restore this capability would be to connect the drive to a PC and use some xbox hacking program to restore "partition 2", which contains the emulator.
If you can't be bothered, then you should probably just spend the extra cash and get the official Microsoft version.
Other than this flaw, however, this drive works perfectly. You'll be able to install xbox 360 games, download music/movies and do whatever else you like. Contrary to some statements, installing a third party drive is not a "mod" and will not get you banned from xbox live.
If you already own the 4Gb version and don't mind getting a little involved, this might be a good way to save some money in the upgrade. If you have the opportunity though, I would recommend skipping the trouble and just purchasing the 250Gb xbox in the first place

He's referring to backwards compatibility of original Xbox games, like Halo 1 and 2. You can play any Xbox 360 game, such as Halo 3.

ive read past reviews were it says that in order to download a game or xbox live update you must take the hard drive out of the console in order for the update to download...is this true, or can you download the game updates onto the hard drive. i play battle field 3 and have no space left, all i want to know is that if i get this hard drive and one of their massive updates comes, will i be able to download it to the hard drive

my friend you are so wrong this drive will play xbox original games you just have to check xbox.com and see what games are transfered over, x box only made some of its original hits playable not all the games so again check xbox for compatebility i can play old and new games just fine with this drive and thanks to you, i ended up buying a original xbox drive with same results so do your research before posting negative comments and confuse the rest of us.

Antonio, I received this HD today, connected to my XBOX 360 slim and recognize it just fine.
When I try to play 3 original XBOX games, that are in the compatibility list, I get the error mentioned in this email thread. What did you do to make it work? Can you help me please?
UPDATE: I restored the hoffmans partition 2 to this HD which gives backward compatibility. Just follow the instructions on this link: http://digiex.net/printthread.php?t=3152&
