I highly recommend this book if you have not been successful at losing weight say anywhere from 5 -20 lbs. You also learn about food portions and healthy ways to eat while including exercise which i believe is very crucial. There is also a maintenance part that is really crucial. If someone wanted to take the slower approach he has another book Fat Smash diet which is a slower process but extremely good. I preferred the faster process because i have a healthy lifestyle already but due to traveling and menapause symptoms 10- 15 creeped up on me and I wanted to release it quickly. It works if you follow the program even if you don't work out everyday but follow the food plan you would still lose weight working out at least 5 days a week but his program is set up for at least 6-7 days a week.
