Not bad for the money,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Autel MaxiScan MS300 CAN Diagnostic Scan Tool for OBDII Vehicles (Automotive)
The product works well, but the DTC code bank from the CD doesn't work and their customer service is in China.

Is the CD software required to use this device? Can the codes simply be looked up elsewhere on the internet? or are the codes proprietary to this device?

As long as your car has OBD II or made after 1996, then you will be able to use this device. This scanner does not come with a Code Bank or a CD, but you could google the codes, ask someone on youtube or you could ask me. The codes retrieving from the device are generics. If you have Germans or Japaneses' cars, then you need their specialty scanner for specific culprit. Otherwise, most of the time you will be able to identify the problems from your Check Engine light. Hope this helps.
