Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was hesitant to purchase this TV at first due to a lackluster Olevia LCD purchase in the past, but I decided to go for it after reading some of the reviews. The first thing I noticed was that all the screws fit perfectly and the stand went on easily. I'm guessing the problem of mismatching screws that the earlier reviewers had has been fixed, but I may have just been lucky. The stand is somewhat flimsy and doesn't pivot, but it otherwise does its job for me.
I attached my FIOS box using HDMI and remarked on the crystal clear display. Colors are fairly accurate and bright, and the contrast is very high at factory defaults. Blacks were a little too black for me and detail was a little hard to make out so I lowered the contrast a little. I also attached it to my Xbox 360 and computer and experience the same with just one note. If you're gaming at all you'll want to shut off the smoothing filters in the advanced picture menu, otherwise the picture looks choppy. Overall excellent picture with many adjustments comparable to both my Panasonic and Samsung LCDs.
The audio on this LCD really isn't as bad as other reviewers make it out to be. If you're big on audio there aren't very many 60Hz LCD's that will give you sound you'd be happy with. This panel produced sounds similar to my Samsung, but not quite as good as the Panasonic. The Bass can be turned up to remove the tinny sound, but you may have to deal with occasional vibration distortion (same with the Samsung). If you're not happy with it there's a digital coaxial audio out port for an audio upgrade, but again you'll probably have to do utilize this with any LCD you buy in that case
I've been using this TV for 2 weeks now, and the only noticeable negative I can think of is that occasionally there's a slight electrical hum coming from the rear of the panel. It's generally unnoticeable, but if it happens to start when the volume is low and all is quiet then it can be a little annoying.
I'm not 100% sure about this being LED lit. The picture is bright and clear, and I have been noticing a slight bit of variable contrast that may come from LEDs, but it's the same thickness as a standard LCD and Amazon doesn't seem to be advertising it as an LED TV so I'm just not sure.
For those of you with FIOS the remote code is 0839 as has been mentioned. This code allows me to control the TV almost completely including full menu navigation and switching between HDMI ports, which is more than I can say for my other TV's.
Again, if you're gaming or connecting it to your computer shut off the smoothing filter.
Overall a great buy for someone on a Budget. I'll try to update if anything goes wrong with the TV so people have an idea of longevity. Enjoy!
