I have connected some Canton speakers to this is amp. There is a persistent hissing sound noticeable in the background. This sound is driving me nuts. If I turn up the volume of the amp, the level of these hissing sound increases. I've disconnected all cables from the amplifier input but I'm still getting this annoying sound.

That's a ground loop issue. Either you've got to filter your audio coming in or the power supply you have is faulty power supply and its letting HF AC into the DC after the transformer.
Take the 12v line off a computer power supply and see if it still hisses.
