This review is from: The Last Mage Guardian (Kindle Edition)Do not let a three-star review put you off -- read this book yourself. Your opinion may be radically different from mine.
This is quite good for a first work -- reads well, good characterization, plot progresses nicely. But I can't rate it higher than three stars, because the main character annoyed me beyond belief. With all her knowledge and developing powers, she was so timid as to be a hermit, and stayed afraid through most of the story? I hated that, and as a result, did not much like or sympathize with the main character.
I'll still read the author's next book, because there's so much potential. I just hope the next book's characters have more spine.

I think perhaps this reviewer is either male, or a not very shy female, who never felt insecure when pushed in to something before she was mentally ready!
A young female in an environment where women were not allowed/expected to be able to possess magical ability (and living in a world full of chauvinistic men) is no doubt going to feel timid and afraid. I think the reviewer missed a lot of the subtext.
