3.0 out of 5 stars Feature-pack player that suffers from poor user interface, December 7, 2007
Length:: 6:02 Mins

Cowon Q5W packs more features than any PMPs out there: WiFi, Bluetooth, optional GPS, NEF RAW support, etc. However, it suffers from poor user interface. The Q5W's interface runs as an shell on top of Windows CE 5.0 (released in 2004!!!). Many of the features come directly from Windows CE. The use of the stylus is a must on some screens and definitely on the on-screen keyboard.

If Cowon can beef up the Q5W's user interface, it will be the player to beat.

Nice idea of doing a video review,but the background music is unneccessary and annoying,making it hard sometimes to hear what the guy is saying. Please lose the music and just have the voice !!

Naz Nightmare, thank you for critiquing my video. I will make sure to turn down the background music appropriately next time. (or lose it altogether like you said).

Hallo. I have an archos 605 wifi. I like it a lot. Just think that this item is a bit to expensive. But it's all personal opinion. Hope your having fun.

When I first discovered the COWON, what struck me most was that you can view office files inside of the Windows CE environment just like a PDA, while at the same time being able to use it like a MP3 player. However, I have yet to read a review that fully discusses the Windows CE environment in COWON. For instance, can you sync the COWON with outlook using activesync? Can you install and run other programs? That information would be extremely useful.

You can sync it using activesync, you can install other programs however they need to be WINDOWS CE 5 Specific. The Windows CE environment is easy to navigate if your used to a Windows PC.

The problems with the touch screen have been addressed with a firmware update, I think the reviewer should update his unit and re-review the device.

These features are also extremely important to me as well. I wish there was a review that would address these as well as its network features. Can I play my media through a regular LAN? How about UPnP or video/audio streaming through network? The more I read the reviews, the less "power-users" I see using this device. It's a different story when it comes to Archos 605 though. There's been some heavy duty work on it; lots of features discovered!

Keep the background music, KL. It adds a bit of entertainment to the review without being obtrusive. Good review.
