This review is from: SquareTrade 3-Year TV Protection Plan ($1750 - 2000) (Electronics)
Its a three year warranty that is really only a two year warranty. The warranty does not cover your T.V. for the first year, you have to go through the manufacture for repairs. They did tell me they covered power surge but nothing else for the first year. So when you buy the warranty they don't tell you that up front, really misleading.

SquareTrade's 3 year warranty does provide protection for your device for all the three years. The only reason we ask you to contact the manufacture in the first year is, because in the event there is a defect, the manufacture will often offer to replace your device or repair it. In the event that the manufacture denies repairing your device, SquareTrade will step in and repair or reimburse you the cost of your device.

You've got it wrong, they will cover anything in the first year that the manufacturer will not. They just think it makes sense to go to the source in case there is a service bulletin about your particular problem or that a known problem exist with a particular part or that they can tell you a procedure over the phone which will cover the issue. My surround sound system locked up on my and the manufacturer was able to walk me through a hard reboot over the phone after which everything was once again fine. No sense in calling ST about something like that, doubtful they would know the super secret reboot procedure for every product on the market. They've been the best warranty company I've dealt with, had a problem with a GE washer and ST was incredible.

They are very up-front about this starting from the day of purchase. They even state that if you have shipping delays after purchase, they will work with you to credit you for that time lost. Seems pretty up-front to me.
