I was shocked...,
This review is from: Elephant (Audio CD)
that this album was so good. If your reading reviews on "Elephant" your probably thinking about buying it. You probably liked "White Blood Cells" and all the singles/stand out tracks. Let me tell you now my friends, everything on "Elephant" blows "White Blood Cells" out of the water. Jack is in a much happier mood on this album and the instrumentals are excellent. Though a few sound like rehased "White Blood Cells" tracks, overall the songwriting/music is masterful. It's almost impossible to explain how many genres this work splits. 60's psychadelica, pop, blues, rock, folk, wow!
This is also sort of a diparture from the White Stripe's earlier works. For instance, "Ball and Biscuit" (Track #8) clocks in over 7 minutes long! Mr. White was definitely listening to the likes of Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Led Belly, etc. when he wrote "B&B". There isn't really a weak track on the cd, I could list them all as strong. I'm going to be making an indie rock mix cd soon and I have no idea which one of these tracks is gonna make the cut. Do yourself a favor and buy this cd. It's easily the best thing of 2003 so far. In one word, genius.
