This review is from: For the Visitor at Mass (Pamphlet)
A generous priest from Chicago's St. John Cantius parish gave me a copy of this helpful booklet before I attended my first celebration of the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite, a.k.a., the Traditional Latin Mass or Tridentine Rite. Taking only 45 minutes or so to read, it was perfect preparation. The high quality photographs illustrate the ceremonies described in the text. The book doesn't just focus on the "what," but the "why." Readers learn the historical background of the Mass and the centrality of sacrifice in authentic Christian worship. Things likely to greet a visitor upon visiting a Catholic church -- tabernacles, stations of the cross, communion rails, etc. -- are given useful and reverent explanations. "For the Visitor at Mass" will not tell you everything there is to know about this ancient and once-again thriving form of worship, but it will help ensure that your first experience at Mass is a blessed one.

Last night there were three yes votes and now *poof* the third has been removed by Amazon's editors.

One man, one vote? Not at Amazon.

Hi Rich,

Saw your comment at Fr. Z's blog. I just voted "yes;" let's see if it sticks.

Great review. I am going to recommend this to our RCIA team. And, yes I gave you a "yes" vote. The disappearing votes supposedly has something to do with "fan votes" Amazon tells us. I too have lost quite a few. For a while I had 17, now I have 3. I notice you have 18!

Readers may enjoy this recent report from my site:

"I assisted at my third celebration of the Extraordinary Form (Traditional Latin Mass) this morning, and I think I get it. During the first two experiences, I was too disoriented and fixated on 'keeping up' for it to be worshipful. Not so this time. I read through the excellent booklet For the Visitor at Mass last night, and then took it along with me this morning as a loose guide. I say 'loose' because it isn't a hand missal per se, but an illustrated outline of the Mass with some key texts and translations. It proved to be the gentle anchor I needed for peaceful, prayerful worship. It's a shame more people can't experience this Mass, especially men. While the EF isn't a 'macho Mass,' it has a masculine dimension that is lacking in many modern liturgies. Were it offered more, I certainly would go; surely I'm not alone."
