An Exciting Piece of Amish American History,
This review is from: Paradise Valley (The Daughters of Caleb Bender Book #1) (Kindle Edition)
An Amish frontier story that reflected how gutsy and self-sufficient the group is. It is admirable that they are so faithful to their beliefs. They were in Ohio and the local government tried to force them to send their children to public school so they risked everything for the freedom to be who they are and moved to Mexico, a new and dangerous frontier.
From an open, undeveloped piece of land they established a successful homestead that provided the foundation for a thriving Amish community. Lots of inspiring examples of courage and excitement not usually ascribed to the Amish throughout the book. A melting pot is good for working together as a nation but maintaining cultural differences keeps it interesting.
