Get fresh at the weekend... and all week long!,
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)Mel (God rest her soul) & Kim were the epitome of Brit-pop attitude in the mid 80s. A local crossover radio station played "Showing Out" in heavy rotation back in '86 and totally got me hooked. At the time I had no idea this was produced by the same folks responsible for Dead Or Alive and Bananarama's biggest hits. I snapped up a copy of the "F.L.M." LP and pretty much wore it out. I was sad to hear of Mel's untimely passing as they certainly would have fit in with the Salt-N-Pepas, J.J. Fads, Sweet Sensations, etc... that came in the couple years after this was released.
This CD, while labelled "The Best Of...", is really a re-issue of the complete "F.L.M." album (CD version) with the inclusion of "That's The Way It Is" from the soundtrack to Eddie Murphy's "Coming To America". It would have been nice to have the remix of that appended to the end of the album as well, but you can't have it all!
I'm truly grateful that this CD was released, giving many more people the pleasure to experience Mel & Kim's sense of style, fun and attitude the way it was meant to be heard!
If you can ever find it... check out Kim Appleby's solo album, which included some fine tracks such as "Don't Worry" and "Mama".
