JAMEY JOHNSON SAVES US FROM "POP COUNTRY"!!!!,
This review is from: That Lonesome Song (Audio CD)
This is the real deal. If you like Waylon Jennings, George Jones, Hank Williams Jr., Johnny Cash, and Johnny Paycheck then this CD is for you. If you like the Nashville "puppets" like Taylor Swift and all of the other robots swallowing up todays radio then you might want to avoid this one because this is REAL COUNTRY music. There is so much pedal steel guitar on this album that I had to open up a cold beer on the first song! This CD was recorded straight through so it makes you feel like you are in the recording studio with the band. It's unfortunate that Jamey Johnson only gets about a months worth of airplay and then dissappears, but "In Color" is hanging around and the video is being played a lot on CMT, but then they play a Sugarland video and I change the channel. Well I just finished the CD and my twelve pack so excuse me while I hit repeat and open a new case of beer. This CD is too good to put away now!

Yep, I agree with you that this guy's got the goods...REAL ALTERNATIVE COUNTRY...as well as your comment on Nashville's puppets and robots...it all makes me gag like you have no idea, however Taylor Swift is a glaring exception...she's the real deal too, not a puppet...yes she has a bunch of radio hits, but she's a songwriter as well, and got her publishing contract when she was only 13, the youngest artist ever to do so...yes, her songs have good pop hooks, but they also have substance...who says that catchy songs with hooks can't also be substantial and deeper than usual??? And also, radio did not take to her immediately...I severely dislike mainstream country radio BTW...I got into Taylor because of her songwriting...anyhoo, enough about Taylor...this is about Jamey Johnson...oh yeah, 2 other alt-country artists I'm also heavily into are Tift Merritt and Hayes Carll...check out Tift's current album, "Another Country", recorded in Paris, and her song "Broken"...just lovely...and Hayes' Lost Highway debut "Trouble In Mind"...if his song (contender for best song of 2008) "She Left Me For Jesus" doesn't crack you up, nothing will...peace.

Don Imus may be a jerk at times but he recognizes talent. He has featured both Jamey and Hayes on his show within the last two weeks. I gotta go mow the roses my ex planted in the yard.
