Laing is a talented and slightly wistful writer who has assembled a clear-eyed but not unkind portrait of some prominent American writers and their relationships with alcohol. It's an engaging read about personal demons interspersed with a bit of the science of alcoholism, and some of her own journey. I give it four stars instead of five because I felt like it was finished before the story was over. Well worth the read.
