Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
It's difficult deciding how to rate this product.
It does grab onto your iPod or iPhone, even if it's in a Belkin F8W043ebC02 Essential 051 (Silicon) Case for Apple iPod Touch 4G - Fountain Blue, and when you click either button you get pretty much what you expect.
But it works only with the Belkin LiveAction app, which it downloads from the App(le) Store. Had I known this I would not have ordered it.
For one thing I don't want to have to move the images I take using this product from where they automatically get sent to to where I want them, which is the Camera Roll, which is where all the other images are. And I don't want to have to go through Belkin to upload images to a social media site. I find the LiveAction software to be just generally not quite mature.
On the plus side, the product does offer a standard metal tripod mount, which is the only reason I ordered it at all. At least one reviewer already correctly noted that to use this product -- since you're not going to keep it attached to your device if you aren't using it as a camera grip -- you have to carry it around with you and then attach it to your camera before you can record images using it. I just leave it attached to my tripod, since that's the only way in which I use it.
So far I award three stars, because if I really need a tripod-mounted shot I can now have it. But that's not much for the price of this product so I subtract one star, which means we're down to two.
Now it's time to report on a few off-book tests I performed to see whether I should add or subtract any stars to arrive at the final rating.
1. Although it latches nicely onto an iPod or iPhone 4, it does not latch at all well onto any of the following: a Droid Razr smartphone, a standard bowling ball, a hamster, a $6,900 Leica M9 18MP Digital Range Finder Camera (Black, Body Only), the USS Nimitz CVN-68 aircraft carrier (not a camera), a Steinway Model D Concert grand piano (too big), and a slab of lime Jello-O in the shape and size of an iPhone 4 (WAY too squishy). I didn't test other flavors.
2. The Belkin LiveAction Camera Grip with Application for Apple iPhone 4s does not contain any radioactive elements or isotopes. According to the USDA and the FDA and the EEUNSSHA you may use it while pregnant. China does not object to it, which is where it's made. Dan Quayle is not on record as objecting to it. No animals are harmed in the testing of this product. It is not prohibited on airplanes by the TSA.
3. When shot through the heart with a .22 caliber bullet at ten yards, my particular example of this product flew into several pieces and is now both utterly unusable and also not, according to a very nice woman at Belkin named Beulah, covered by the warranty.
