A Great Treasure For Those Who Are Ready,
This review is from: A Course in Miracles, Combined Volume: Text, Workbook for Students, and Manual for Teachers (Hardcover)
There has been a great deal written about ACIM and it all pales in comparison with the experience of the Course itself. That would include this introduction!
ACIM is not for everyone. As the Course says, many are called but few choose to respond. If you're ready, your soul will be hungry and ACIM will come to you. Read the Introduction carefully and see how it resonates with your Spirit. There should be no doubt if you're ready.
ACIM requires dedication and commitment. There is so much information in each paragraph of text that frequently one must stop and contemplate each sentence in turn! It is counter-productive to read on past sections one has not internalized, so patience is a must.
There is a meditation sequence that requires a minimum of one year to complete. Even if you are an experienced meditator, you will probably take a quantum leap in your spiritual awareness and for the first time comprehend the true nature of meditation. This meditation is required in order to grasp the underlying message of the Course and the ability to put oneself instantly into the Presence of God is emphasized throughout the text.
ACIM is a two-way street. Along with the peace and confidence that accompanies learning to see the world through the eyes of Christ comes the awesome responsibility of becoming a Teacher of God.

I think I'm ready. I want to be ready. It sounds hard. I hope I can be resolute.

If you want to be ready, you're ready. Just be patient and take it one step at a time.
If I were to offer one piece of advice, it would be not to go on to the next page, the next paragraph, or even the next sentence until you've fully understood and internalized what you've just read.
Don't judge yourself based on your ability to absorb the material - it is very "informationally dense", for lack of a better phrase.
To be honest, I don't think anyone can really "get it" 100%, but as the Course says, simply by understanding a single concept sometimes you can make a profound shift in awareness.

Thank you. This is a good thing to know before I begin.

I am stymied by the use of numbers throughout the "text" section of the book. At first I thought they were footnotes or endnotes, but I cannot locate any text in the book for the notes the numbers refer to. Plus, the numbers are to the left of a word, not to the right as with normal noting. There seems to be no explanation of these numbers in this edition.

Boo Boo says:
Rules about readiness are man made. Spirit does not live by such rules.
The course says all are called, but few choose to listen.
Some parts of the text simply say the same thing a different way.
Ask the Holy Spirit for help with all problems - including reading the text.

So do you really now have this "awesome responsibility and have become a Teacher of God" as you put it after going through the course?!

So glad to hear it. . . when I woke up this morning, the light danced upon the trees and through the clouds, it touched the flowers and kissed my face. the light was everywhere and and yet nothing. If there was no light, the flowers wouldn't grow, There would be no I in this lover's glow. So much to learn from this light, but it teaches nothing and ever silent. So much in this world depends on it; yet it claims nothing, only the loving acceptance of everything.
