You get what you pay for..,
This review is from: Discovery Expedition Entertainment Projector (Electronics)I always wanted a projector. I work at Kohl's and we had these on sale for 79.99, I had $20 in Kohl's cash and 30% employee discount. I got this for about $45 today. Last night I read all the other 19 reveiws of this product. Most people hated it, a couple people loved it. So, I decided I would give it a try, I could always return it. I was completely expecting low quality based on the other reveiws, so I didn't get my hopes up. Well, I'm glad I didn't.
When I brought it home, I set it up right away. I have tall, slanted ceilings in my room, so I projected this to the ceiling. I hooked up the projector to a PS2, and I plugged in my sound system to the audio port. The directions say you should have the projector 14 feet away from whatever wall you wish to project onto, so this is more for larger rooms I guess. I plugged this thing on and the first thing I noticed was how loud the fan was. I saw one reveiwer said she was laying on the floor next to it and it was quiet. Well, she must've had a quiet one, because this thing was pretty loud. The picture wasnt awful when it was up on the ceiling, it just would've looked better from a farther distance, and that is not what I have in my bedroom. You are able to adjust the color and contrast on the projector, but it's still awkward. Obviously it's not meant to be perfect, but it just could not focus enough for how I would like to watch it. Also, with my speakers and sub plugged into the projector, the sound still sucked. No bass what-so-ever. I like my sound to be very bassy. I think if the sound worked better, I would have approved of this, but it didnt. Another thing was that there was a small line shown on the projected image. I'm guessing there was a crack somewhere inside the lenses, but I wasn't about to take anything apart to find out. SO.
Overall.. I found this was true of other reveiws.
Fan was loud.
Doesn't focus well.
Has to be very dark to see it decently.
Sound sucks, even when you plug it into your own sound system.
Picture is awkward with circle-pixels.
Crack in lens.
Only decent things..
Picture isnt too shabby when its very dark and focused as much as possible with the contrast and color.
Adjustable handle thing to angle it.
I would not recommend this product unless you dont care about sound, clarity or being in the pitch black. This might be good if you have a large basement and little kids, for playing videogames or watching animated films. Otherwise, don't waste your time, I'm pretty sure the reveiwers who rated this five stars work for Discovery.
