The Best Book of the Year,
This review is from: Alligator Lake (Paperback)
This book takes place in modern Mississippi, but it flashes back to Mississippi in the 1960's, too. It brilliantly compares and contrasts the eras. It raises the question: "have things really changed that much?"
There is also a running tension between the mother and daughter, and there has been for years. The characters try to understand each other and heal, but is it possible? There are secrets that are coming to the surface. Is the family ready for them to come out?
This book hit the ground running. I fell in love with it, and I hope for a sequel. The characters, plot, and emotionality of the book have made this the best book I have read this year.
