Live Nation VS. Jay-Z,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Empire State of Mind: How Jay-Z Went from Street Corner to Corner Office (Hardcover)Ok, to make it short: I'm not a Jay-Z fan. I think this dude is way overrated, he sounds ALWAYS the same (voice/pitch) and therfore is definitely NOT the best rapper out there.
Nevertheless, I can recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the hip hop business. I'm not a fan of him, but I still enjoyed this book very much.
The only thing I definitely don't like about this book is, that the writer imo didn't do enough research. He lists how many millions Jay-Z made with each deal but forgot to mention how much there was for Jay at the bottom line, because Live Nation are always doing 360 deals, which means if Jay made 10 million USD, while he was signed to Live Nation, that money probably went to them, and not to him.... so it is not clear throughout the book how much money went to which pocket.
But besides that, I can recommend it, overall, well done!

Thanks for the review. As a hip-hop fan, I totally agree with you on Jay's rapping abilities; I've always thought him to be unremarkable, which, in a way, makes his mega-success even more interesting. I'm glad to learn your opinions on the book.
