Really Wanted This to Work,
This review is from: Twelve South HoverBar for iPad - Adjustable arm for iPad (2nd, 3rd and 4th generation) (Personal Computers)
I bought the HoverBar from the Apple store today and I immediately had to write this review. I read every Amazon review and watched every video I could find on YouTube and was still unprepared for what I bought. The hover bar is much heavier than expected, nearly putting my iMac off balance. The arm is barely flexible and it was a 10 minute struggle to get the arm into the right shape. The arm is so inflexible that you need to adjust it before you clamp it to your surface or computer. Given how rigid the arm of the hover bar is, you'd think it could hold the iPad. Not so. After I clamped the hover bar to my iMac, the weight of my iPad would unscrew the arm from the clamp leaving me with a constant wobble. I tried to screw the arm to the clamp a bit harder till I broke the cheap washer they included. After an hour of fighting the hover bar, I finally found a sweet spot. I bought the hover bar thinking that I'd be able to clamp my iPad however I liked. I've only found one position it works in so forget adjusting it into a position you want.
What bothered me most about getting the hover bar is how misled I felt. The ad for the hover bar shows a kid turning his iPad like a steering wheel for a game. That's simply impossible. The arm is really inflexible and the weight distribution puts the entire arm off balance. It doesn't give you any flexibility and moving your iPad around after clamping it isn't feasible in the slightest. It does work, but barely. I wish I never bought it and I recommend you don't either.
