Verified Purchase(What's this?)
We've struggled in our home trying to find those isolated locations where our new little Toshiba Netbook (NB-305 model)would be able to make a decent connection to our Linksys wireless-G, 2.4GHz broadband router. Basically, if we didn't have a direct line of sight to the router we'd have signal trouble often resulting in disconnection from the internet. We just received and plugged this new Edimax into the USB port and within one minute found that we now have good reception (5 bars) from almost anywhere in our two story house. I even went outside down to the water's edge (30 ft from house) and still had full signal. Perhaps now my wife will join me fishing this summer if she's able to shop Amazon from the canoe while I fish! (Strike that -- it's probably not such a good idea.) Our netbook also gave us very limited usage in public venues such as coffee houses due to weak reception. We'd have to sit very close to the router to get a good signal. Looking forward to trying out the Edimax in some of these public facilities very soon.

I got this for my Craig Netbook running Android 2.2 and it DIDN'T work. No way to force the hub to be recognized by the operating system. I even tried to edit the WiFi file in the data/etc/WiFi folder (forgot the name of it) using Root Explorer but it still did not recognize the hub. And there are no instructions for anything but Windows OS. Not even in the online manual, even though the package says Mac and Linux compatible.

Couldn't get the Edimax to connect to the free wifi access point at McDonald's Wayport Access. For comparison another adapter connected just fine to same access point. I tried both WZC mode and running adapter with Edimax WLAN utility. Sees the SSID=Wayport_Access, but doesn't get an IP address. Has anybody had the same discovery? Probably same issue at the Starbucks cafe.. although didn't try it there yet. Help?

As for your home network and your onboard wireless LAN, change the channel of your Linksys router. The best channels for reception is 1, 6 and 11. Try each until you find the best. Also check your encryption type. I suggest WPA as opposed to WPA2 for reception.
