5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Card (GW2 info included), September 13, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: XFX AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB GDDR5 2DVI/HDMI/2Mini DisplayPort PCI-Express Graphics Card FX787ACDFC;FX-787A-CDFC (Personal Computers)
This card is running great. Temp on idle is 34C at default 37% fan speed. On load I top out at 55 - 65C with fan speed at about 47% and it seems quiet at those speeds. I'm able to run my favorite older games like Portal 2, Bioshock, Borderlands at 60 fps solid with max settings at 1920 x 1080. Skyrim runs at about 45 - 60 as you run along and get into battles.

Guild Wars 2 runs great at an average of 50 fps with max settings with the exception of LOD Distance-(High), Shadows-(Med) and water/object animation-(Med). Rez-1920 x 1080. I get about 30 - 40 fps during group events with like 50 players casting spells. 50 - 60 fps while solo questing. Running through busy towns about 45 - 55 fps and a solid 60 fps while in an instant. In WvWvW I'm getting 5 - 10 fps with hundreds of players casting aoe spells near a gate but 40 - 50 on other parts of the map. ArenaNet has admitted GW2 needs to be optimized so I imagine the performance will only get better with time/AMD driver updates. I'll keep this review updated with performance changes.

I've heard that the process to register with XFX was poor. I agree XFX's site isn't perfect at the moment but not worth taking off an egg. In fact XFX put the serial number on an included door hanger so if you install the card first you don't have to worry about opening your case back up to check. Once I finished registering I just went straight to AMD's site to download 12.8 drivers.

Overall I'm very happy with XFX and AMD for making a solid card. I look forward to playing Assassins Creed 3 on this GPU. Let's just hope I won't ever have to RMA this puppy. I'll keep this review updated if I do.

The process to register your card is easy on Xforce, and it gives you a lifetime warranty. I have 2 XFX cards, no problem at all.
