5.0 out of 5 stars HOLE IN THE BOTTOM FIRST TIME OUT, August 1, 2011

This review is from: Sea Eagle 380x Inflatable Kayak with Pro Package (Sports)
Well, big disappoint. Went over a rock first time out in the boat on the river, and ripped a 10" hole in the bottom of the boat, and in the floor. Floated 9 miles sitting in 10" of water. The sides kept us a float. I would never recommend this item. Totally not worth the money, and a waste. It was I guess the most expensive river trip we have ever taken, no joke, $920 down the drain. Oh, I guess we could send it back for a repair job for a minimum of $7

Update: Well, I have to say, their customer service was awesome! We have another boat being shipped to us. They really stand behind their product! We will see how the next one holds up.

Simmer says:
Come on spunky. You're in an inflatable. They aren't advertised as indestructible and you would have to expect some damage in such a situation. Even a hard shell kayak can sustain damage slamming into rocks. Just look at the titanic.

I'm glad to hear you are safe and that sea eagle stands by their products. Thanks for the review.

can you describe the rock you hit? i've hit sharp rocks in the arkansas river in colorado. tore 5 holes my hypalon raft floor on one trip. grrrr...but those were very sharp rocks. in missouri, i've never torn the floor in my raft and have grinded on many rocks and roots. i'm considering buying one of these kayaks but am worried about the impact resistance of PVC as its nowhere near as good as hypalon.

We had our Sea Eagle out a few times on rivers, very swallow. If you slowly creep over the rocks not much is happening.
Last time we hit a rock, slowly on the side and got a micro-puncturation :-( Air is comming out (but would take at least 24 hours for the complete boat)
Have to glue that area.
They advertise it as super-riggid...but it is not. A normal hard-shell kajak would not have had any problem on the stone we hit (we hit it very slowly)
