This review is from: Christ's Ventriloquists: The Event that Created Christianity (Paperback)
Been seriously studying the Bible and scholarly books on the Bible for decades. Even taught Bible class in Catholic Church until the rape scandels became so common and personal studies showed milleniums of opposing the principals of Democracy in preference to monarchies.

As a structural (retired) engineer I am not the dullest bulb on the block. This book is very difficult to read without going back over and over to be clear on all the progressive proofs presented in legalize. This is a strong objective method. Perhaps lawyers will find it easier to understand.

For me I find the premise interesting and important to say the least. Some books take a week to read. This may takes months if you are determined to understand the points as they are presented.

My God if this hypothesis is correct the progression of society has been raped more than all the wars put together. Paul is presented as totally corrupting the basis of Jesus's teaching. If there is a God how could He permit this? Most of the time that question turns on us but this is way past monsterous. No single human has conned the world anywhere near the scale of Paul? Read at your peril.

If your faith renders you immune to facts jus skip this book anyway. As Pontius Pilate said to Jesus, "what is truth"? If this is truth we are unhinged by faith. So many suffered for the actions of one ambitious man?

Dr. Barton says:
"No single human has conned the world anywhere near the scale of Paul"

I'm not sure about the numbers but I'd have to say that Mohammed was close to neck and neck here.

Barton: Islam and Judaism are likewise compromised, maybe Islam even influenced by Paul.
Speer: Be sure to read Dr. Robert Eisenman. He is leading the way to a new understanding of Paul. My book is even more rabid (if that's possible) about Paul than Zuesse. I talked to him on the Amazon Christianity blog. He is very bright. Here is a peek at where I come from in my work, The Bible says 'Saviors' - Obadiah 1:21: The New Testament coverup of saviors John the Baptist and James the Just

This I wanted to post on his blog, but the link to log in is down:
Got lots to say on this, an excellent summary of that brigand Paul. About 'false teachers', there is one gospel corruption of 'scripture' that must be brought to light, and spread far and wide: Matthew 24:4-5: "Jesus answered them saying: beware lest anyone [Paul] should lead you astray because many will come in my name, saying I am the Messiah and they will lead you astray." That is the CORRECT Hebrew Matthew, punctuated correctly (no colon, or anything else -- like quotations -- following "saying"). 24:14-15: "And this gospel, that is evungili [Gr. for 'gospel'], will be preached in all the earth for a witness CONCERNING ME to all the nations and then the end will come. THIS is the AntiChrist, and this is the abomination which desolates which was spoken of by Daniel as standing in the holy place. Let him who reads [Daniel] understand." The gospel indicated was PAUL'S, not Jesus'. It "CONCERNED" him, it was not HIS. His was presumably the "gospel of the kingdom" -- added to the receiveds to immortalize Jesus after twisting the condemnation into a simple time marker. This is pure orthodox corruption of scripture -- the original HEBREW changed when translated to the Greek Matthew by orthodox scribes. Paul made Jesus an eternal savior by preaching him as Lord AFTER HIS DEATH (Romans 10:9-10). There are numerous other alterations hiding other, living, Masters in the New Testament (James for one, hidden in the gospels/Acts as "Judas"), such as John 9:4, with the received "sent me" instead of "sent US" (Codex Sinaiticus) indicating the limited ministry of Jesus.

Jane Hay says:
This book's premise is NOT new - it's been researched and discussed for hundreds of years (see Jesuits) and is probably true. Theologians know about it - no one ever mentions it to the average churchgoer or covers it in "bible study" class. Hey - they don't want to kill the golden goose, now do they !

Graeme Cree says:
What's so difficult about this book for the faithful to deal with? Hopes and theories that the whole thing is untrue have been around since Day 1. You say that this is a particularly difficult one to deal with, but give no specific reasons. This is a positive review, fergoodnesssake, you're supposed to be telling us what's good about the book, not just asking us to have faith that it's great.
