Great minimalist/barefoot running shoe (and all around),
The Merrell Road Gloves are an awesome all-around shoe and outstanding for running. They are lightweight, have a durable Vibram sole, lace-up well, have a secure fit with a large comfortable toe box and the insole is treated to protect against foot odor. I've read comparisons against the Trail Glove and don't own a pair but I do own a pair of True Gloves and there is a very slight difference in the arch. However, the arch has not been an issue for me. The Road Gloves fit great and are so comfortable that I've switched over to wearing Road Gloves and True Gloves almost exclusively. I needed a six week break-in period, not for the shoes, but primarily for my body to adapt; I had run in traditional running shoes for the past 40 years. When I started having physical problems (back and hip pain) most likely due to heel striking, I decided to make a change in running form and switched to Merrell Barefoot at the same time. I've almost completely overcome all of my physical problems over the past five months by starting a regular core strengthening exercise program, changing to a more efficient running form, including increasing cadence to180 steps per minute, and switching to the Road Gloves. Colors and styles are nice and I've received compliments on my shoes and been asked about zero-drop shoes and barefoot running. I'm not an expert on which running form is best but makes sense to me that this is a more natural running form. The insole definitely keeps odors down and this is great because I do not wear socks when I run or go out casually, even in the winter (I live in Florida so not really winter down here). :) But, the treated insole almost feels like a cardboard/fiber substance that builds up tiny bumps, which is what some may be complaining about. Again, for me it was a very short adaptation period. I've never had a problem with the insole once the muscles in my feet got strong and acclimated. Since switching to more of a forefoot/midfoot landing I've noticed that I have less tendency to twist an ankle and I have less soreness between runs. The shoes provide excellent feeling of the terrain under my feet. These are really great shoes!!! Just take your time if these are your first zero-drop/barefoot/minimilist running shoes. Check out YouTube for good information if you're considering barefoot running and Merrell shoes.
Upgrading to 5 stars! These are awesome shoes. They are my primary running shoe and I've put massive miles on them. They are incredibly durable and the insole is very minor. I've bought more pairs after putting hundreds of road miles on these shoes and will buy more pairs in the future.

"These are really great shoes!!!" - Why only 4 stars then?

The insole tends to break down. As I mentioned, it seems like a fiberboard that starts to peel. I love these shoes and have bought more pairs after wearing out prior pairs, but they need to do something about the insole. I posted the same comment on Merrell's site.

I am right there with you about the insoles. I have had a pair for four months and it has separated on me:( I tried to ignore it but ended up with a huge blister on my left foot today. It is truly sad because the rest of the shoe is in excellent shape given the amount of miles on them.
