Comparing the black to the green variety,
This review is from: Zhena's Gypsy Tea, Coconut Chai, 22 Count Tea Sachets (Pack of 6) (Grocery)
How does this compare to the green tea counterpart by Zhena? I was given both at the same time, so I've been trying them in tandem. I expected a stronger coconut taste thah this black tea blend provides. With milk and sweetener, and some time to cool down, the flavor improves. If drank right after steeping, the flavor is stronger and a bit harsh. In a little while, the spiciness gives way to a more blended cardamom-cinnamon combination. It's fine, but I wanted more of a tropical spin on this familiar chai flavor.
I think the green tea option with the same ingredients offers a better take. You can taste more the coconut and the spiciness is less apparent. Instead, a candied taste and appealing aroma combine for a pleasant afternoon cup. The caffeine is half that of this blend. Either or both will please chai lovers, but don't expect a dramatic departure in the black label from a basic chai tea.
P.S. I wish options were provided for buying only sachets to refill tins. There's only so many of these you can re-use for other products and while they are recyclable and the brand is commendably fair-trade and organic, one step further would be to enhance the utility of the tin by refilling it rather than recycling it. That being said it's good to be able to buy tea more ethically.
