3.0 out of 5 stars An ititial look at the Contour Roam2 camera, September 20, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I'm offering a review of the Contour Roam2 Waterproof HD camera.
First: I have to express my disappointment in discovering I didn't need the iPhone app for Contour Camera, listed as Contour Connect in the app store, because this camera does NOT have Bluetooth capability. What a letdown. Also the camera will have to be configured via the Contour Storyteller software while connected to my laptop via a supplied USB cable. There will be no previewing video though my iPhone either, which I guess could go without saying- but I said it any way. So much for ease of use so far.
Second: The mounts that come with the camera (there are two, a profile mount, a rotating flat-surface mount, and flat-surface mount adhesive) require using an adhesive attachment. Who wants to ruin a nice helmet with a "sticky application patch" on the side. Once on, they are on, so I'm going to have to purchase a separate helmet for attaching the camera to. Cha-ching.
Third: The carrying bag that comes with the camera is just that. A small cloth bag that doesn't offer much protection, if any, maybe only to dust. If you want protection looks like there will have to be another purchase in your future. Another $30 if you get it from Amazon.
Fourth: It says "waterproof" but if you search Amazon you'll find they sell a "waterproof case" for the camera. As is the camera itself is actually waterproof to 3 ft. only. Not that I will ever have need of a waterproof capability but maybe someone reading this review will and find it a handy fact to know.
Fifth: Order a MicroSD card when you order this camera because this one only comes with a 4-Gb card. (records about 8 minutes of video per Gigabyte on the 1080p HD setting, according to the Storyteller software)

I've only done a short video test to make sure the thing works, and it does, but for an adequate review of video quality I'll have to charge the camera for a few hours first.
I may have wished I had saved up and held out for a Hero3 camera.

How can you be diappointed about something the camera does not have ie bluetooth, under water capability, sd card size, carry bag? Did you read the camera specs before purchasing? All these things are stated. These are the kinds of reviews that drive me nuts.
People please read before you purchase.

Maybe you should have compared the different model Contour cameras. All the feature you were looking for are on the Contour+2.

I've read that the Contour +2 is not waterproof, you have to put it in the waterproof case (which impedes the sound recording aspect significantly).

Sounds like you would be disappointing with a GoPro as well if you purchase it without reading the specs before hand and understanding it's limits like you did with this one.

before you buy the hero3 you better read the amazon reviews on that one. the hero seems to have worse problems than the one you have. Now with 2 on my list poop-canned I will have to continue to look for one? thanks for the comments!

What an moronic response! From the context of it, you appear to be someone that is a chronic complainer. All that you write about are little nothings which have nothing to do with the quality, features of specs of the camera, but rather with how you expect everything about it to be tailor made to your personal preferences.

You say that you're disappointed that it does NOT have Bluetooth, but the camera specs do not claim to have Bluetooth.

You complain about the flat-surface adhesive attachment that, "Once on, they are on." Certainly you would be in a tizzy about an inadequate adhesive attachment if the camera fell off your helmet and was damaged or lost. Cha-ching$$$. I find it comforting to know that when attached to any surface, the camera is secure and I don't have to worry about it coming off.

You write about the camera being "waterproof" up to 3 feet, but then complain about Amazon offering a separate "waterproof case." Perhaps you should have bought the regular version of the camera instead of the waterproof model, you could have saved a few dollars. Ker-plunk! You certainly didn't consider that the waterproof case would be needed at depths below 3 feet.

You also complain about the 4-GB Micro SD card that comes with the camera. All cameras that I have purchased did not include any card; I had to purchase one separately. The 4-GB card allows one to use and familiarize their self with the camera immediately. It's also great to have as a backup in the event that the main card is full.

In closing, you mention that you did a short video test. No doubt, it was done with that included 4-GB card. Though it seems that having to charge the battery "for a few hours" is also annoying to you. May I suggest that you search Amazon for the lifetime, never needs charging, nuclear-powered battery. Beware, however, it may cost you extra. Cha-ching, cha-ching!!!

Review is terrible. Complains about things that are not included with the camera and no where in the description says they are. Read before buying and don't negatively review a product that records video because it doesn't make you coffee too.
